This course is about Chicago, We will cover the history of the city and region, the politics, corruption, arts, plans, neighborhoods, humor, achievements and the future of the City.

Neighborhoods



There are many interesting neighborhoods in Chicago. Many of them are focused on an ethnic group. And many neighborhoods have transition from one group to another.

Close into downtown there are several interesting neighborhoods. You can easily hit Greektown on the west side of downtown, then south to Taylor Street to Little Italy also known as University Village for the University of Illinois Campus, then down to Pilsen which was once Czech but is now Mexican, then over to Chinatown.  This post explains how to make the trip.

Pierian Spring

In Greek mythology, the Pierian Spring of Macedonia was sacred to the Muses. As the metaphorical source of knowledge of art and science, it was popularized by a couplet in Alexander Pope's poem "An Essay on Criticism" (1709): "A little learning is a dang'rous thing;/Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring."
